Shakib UL Hasan Not Mentally Prepared to Lead Bangladesh
Bangladesh
captain Shakib Al Hasan said he was not mentally ready to lead the team in any
format. The versatile player is currently the captain of the T20I and Test
teams and will lead Bangladesh in the next test match against Afghanistan.
Hasan said he was not interested in the leadership role.
The
versatile all-rounder thinks he can deliver the goods to the team more
efficiently if he focuses solely on his game. However, as the Bangladesh team
is not in great shape, Shakib took on the responsibility of getting the team
back on track.
"I'm
not even mentally ready to conduct the Tests and the T20s". "I'm not
interested in directing in any format. I can focus on myself if I'm not a
captain, which would help the team. "But the team is not in shape, so I
understand that I have to lead to get it back on track."
Hasan
believes that the time has come to give the captaincy witness to a young
player. The versatile player added that young players would only learn when
they have responsibility on their shoulders. It is time for the youngsters to
take responsibility.
"I
want to see the younger ones take responsibility. We [Shakib and Mushfiqur
Rahim] capitulated at a very young age, but now they are 26, 27 years old.
"If you don't give them responsibility, you won't know what they can do.
The World Test Championship and the T20 World Cup are coming, so we should plan
for the next four years. "
Mashrafe
Mortaza, the old skipper of Bangladesh, has enjoyed a mediocre World Cup,
having won only one home run in eight matches. Shakib Al Hasan said it hurt the
team as the captain was unable to lead.
"I
was convinced that we could go further in this World Cup and that it could have
been possible if everyone had contributed". "When a player doesn't play, he thinks
more about himself than the team, which creates the problem. I believe it
happened in the Mashrafe case.
"It
was a big problem, for himself and the team, that the captain was not
performing well. The captain has to perform, but we were late in that
aspect". Bangladesh will face Afghanistan in a test match that starts in
Chattogram on 5 September.
