England Announces its Squad for Third Ashes Test 2019

England has selected their 12-man squad for the third Ashes Test 2019 against Australia starting on Thursday 22 August in Headingley. The hosts remain 1-0 in the five-match series after the second Test ending in a draw. James Anderson, the 37-year-old, will have to wait for his return but will test his right calf in Lancashire's three-day second XI match against Leicestershire starting on Tuesday (20 August).

Joe Root and Co. hope Anderson will regain his fitness for the match in time for the fourth Test, which starts on 4 September at Old Trafford. Jofra Archer and Jack Leach remain in the group after impressing in place of Anderson and Moeen Ali at Lord's respectively. Archer produced a devastating performance against Australian batsmen with one of the fastest bowling spells in the cricket test of this decade.

The England debutant hit Steve Smith in the neck with a nasty bouncer and the former Australian captain ranked the world's best test batsman was forced to retire at 80. While Smith returned to score 92 Saturday, he was ruled out for the rest of the game with a concussion and will be evaluated before the third Test.

The England team for the third Ashes Test 2019:

Joe Root (Captain), Ben Stokes (Vice Captain), Jofra Archer, Jonny Bairstow (Wicket Keeper). Stuart Broad, Rory Burns, Jos Buttler, Sam Curran, Joe Denly, Jack Leach, Jason Roy, and Chris Woakes.
