It is interesting to note that Gayle made his ODI debut against India on September 11, 1999. Gayle said: "It's a very special day. I must thank the Almighty for reaching this stage and the fans for their support over the years, it's fantastic.

"I hope to make it a special event today for the fans. 300 ODI, from a personal point of view, I would like to make it a special event. I'm grateful, but it will be more important to get a win as well and win as well". Gayle missed the T20I series against India because of his previous commitments to the 2019 Global T20 Canada, leading the Vancouver Knights.
