Virat Kohli Breaks MS Dhoni’s Test Captaincy Record

India beat the West Indies in the second attempt by 257 races on the fourth day to sweep the series 2-0 and consolidate its leading position in the points table of the ICC World Test Championship. It was the first time India had completed a complete sweep of a series of tests in the Caribbean.

Besides, Virat Kohli overtook MS Dhoni to become the most successful Indian test captain of all time. With the victory over the West Indies, Kohli now has a record 28 wins in 48 games, while Dhoni has won 27 in 60 Test games.

Sourav Ganguly and Mohammad Azharuddin are the other Indian skippers who have managed on the list with 21 and 14 victories respectively.

During the pre-match presentation ceremony, Former Windies fast-paced basketball player Ian Bishop reminded Kohli of his record. However, the 30-year-old chose to credit the team's performance and refused to take credits for India's success.

"Being the most successful test captain? It's a by-product of our team. Our bowlers are amazing. Shami was great, Ishant loses his heart, Jadeja casts a long spell. The captaincy is just a "C" in front of your name. It's a collective effort," Kohli said.

The 30-year-old also praised the efforts of India's versatile team, which again outclassed the home team.

"Still pretty complete. Played good cricket for four days. Getting results the way you want is crucial. Were in difficult situations. Took many characters from the boys collectively.

"For us, this is just the beginning of the Championship. It doesn't matter what happened in the past. I can't wait to keep playing good cricket," Kohli added.
