Virender Sehwag Recalls Arun Jaitley’s Contribution to His Career
Former Indian champion Virender Sehwag paid tribute to Arun Jaitley, former finance minister and president of the Delhi cricket and District Cricket Association (DDCA). Party stalwart Bharatiya Janta died on Saturday at THE AIIMS hospital in New Delhi.
He was 66 and was taken to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences on 9 August after complaining of shortness of breath and nervousness. Mr. Jaitley was kept under observation at the hospital's Cardio-Neuro-Centre, but his condition continued to deteriorate. In January of this year, he left his post as Minister of Finance in January for health reasons.
Tributes pour in from every corner of one of India's most famous politicians. Virender Sehwag also joined the movement. The legendary opener paid tribute to Mr. Jaitley before explaining the important role he played for cricketers in Delhi while he was president of the DDCA. Mr. Jaitley led DDCA for 13 years until 2013.
Virender Sehwag recalled how Jaitley's role had helped The Delhi Cricketers, including himself, to join the Indian team as he tweeted:
“In addition to having served extensively in public life, he played an important role in the fact that many Delhi players had the opportunity to represent India. There was a time when few Delhi players had a chance at the highest level.
Struggled at the death of #ArunJaitley Ji. In addition to having served extensively in public life, he played an important role in the fact that many Delhi players had the opportunity to represent India. There was a time when few Delhi players had a chance at the highest level.
"But under his leadership at DDCA, many players, including me, had the chance to represent India. He listened to the needs of the players and was a problem solver. Personally, shared a very nice relationship with him. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones. Om Shanti".
So far, the situation has completely changed. There are several Delhi stars in the Indian team. Between skipper Virat Kohli, Shikhar Dhawan, Ishant Sharma, Rishabh Pant and newcomer Navdeep Saini, Team India has no shortage of Delhi players.
