Saqlain Applies as a Head Coach for U19 Pakistani Team
Saqlain Mushtaq has applied for the position of head coach of the national under-19 team and will appear for an interview on Monday with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Saqlain, 42, who took 496 wickets in 49 Tests and 169 ODIs, responded to a CCP announcement seeking nominations for the head coach position of the Junior National Team, which is preparing for next year's World Cup. "I applied and my interview is next week. I just feel like I can contribute a lot to Pakistani cricket," Saqlain said.
The ECB level 3 coach has previously worked with senior teams from New Zealand, Australia, the West Indies, and Bangladesh as a spin consultant or coach. He was also recently linked to the England team for the World Cup and is currently with them for a part of the current Ashes series.
"I've gained a lot of coaching experience around the world, but I've worked a lot with young players from Somerset and Middlesex counties and in different academies around the world”.
The PAC is also expected to seek applications for senior team coaching positions after the Eid celebrations. The Board did not renew the contracts of head coach Mickey Arthur and support staff after Pakistan failed to qualify for the ODI World Cup round of 16. Saqlain, whose spin twin Mushtaq Ahmed, also currently works as a spin coach in the West Indies, has always expressed interest in working in cricket facilities in Pakistan.
The PAC has repeatedly stated that it wants a top player/coach to work with his junior team under the Indian board's decision to appoint former great batting ra.e. Rahul Dravid as coach of their teams. under-19s and A.
