Sachin Tendulkar Views on Test Cricket
While the current Ashes 2019 may have improved the test format a little, there is no denying that the test format is the least popular in the game now. With the advent of the T20 and its meteoric rise around the world, the game's oldest format is fighting for its survival. In the last attempt to save the tests, the International Cricket Council (ICC) launched the World Test Championship.
Just like previous times, each test will have its value and the teams will have more to play. And while the cricket world is busy thinking about measures that could bring back the glory of cricket Test, former Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar has contributed to this project. The legendary batsman believes that "interesting" pitches are essential to revive the cricket test.
Tendulkar, who holds almost all major batting records in tests and ODIs, said the flat and dead tracks will only help pose challenges in the five-day format.
"Test cricket will relive if we produce interesting pieces, but if the tracks are flat and dead, Test cricket will find its challenges. I know this World Test Championship has been announced, but even to have this world championship, you must make cricket interesting. Just by having a championship, cricket is not going to get interesting," According to latest cricket news.
Citing the results and the kind of cricket proposed so far in the Ashes, Tendulkar explained that this was one of the reasons why people went from the World Cup so early to the five-match series.
" (Steve) Smith sadly got injured, but the cricket test was exciting when Jofra Archer challenged him. "The attention has turned to the cricket test, people have almost forgotten that four weeks ago, a World Cup was being played in England, nobody is talking about that, everyone is talking about cricket testing because it is a challenging and exciting challenge," he added.
Meanwhile, Team India is currently playing tests in the Caribbean India Vs West Indies. They will play two tests before returning home to play three more tests against South Africa.
