Fakhar Zaman says he has no issues with his batting technique. Fakhar Zaman came under fire after Pakistan's early exit from the 2019 International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup. However, Zaman was adamant that the criticism was based on the circumstances rather than his technique.
"Every time you play well in a game, there is very little criticism. But when you don't do it right, all sorts of things are said about a player. In my experience, players who have already played cricket will not say things like "Fakhar has been discovered," etc.". To give you an example, let's take what happened in ODI's first game against England. I was away for 3 in this game and we heard all sorts of things about my technique, including the fact that, somehow, I had been discovered by the opposition. In the next game, I scored 138 runs and the comments were completely different".
The 29-year-old believes that each player is focused on improving his game and has revealed his strategy to help him in his future career.
"A cricketer always seeks to improve his game, regardless of the format he plays or the stage of his career. What I'm trying to do at this stage of the tournament is to play a longer round, because I feel that not doing so affects my success rate for the team". "I don't think my technique is a problem and the ball is well played for me. I just take more time at the wicket because I'm sure it will help me increase the team scores".
The left-hander, who currently represents Glamorgan in the Vitality T20 Blast, also believes that Habib Bank Limited's (HBL) Pakistan Super League PSL 2020 is more competitive than the T20 tournament in England.
"Although there is no difference in the format of the game, the PSL tends to be more competitive because six camps are representing the whole of Pakistan". "With 4 foreign players allowed, teams can field very competitive teams, which makes every game very difficult. However, there are 18 teams in the T20 Blast, which can affect the quality of the competition".
Zaman stressed, however, that the Vitality T20 Blast offered players the opportunity to play on different pitches, which could help cricketers in the long run.
"However, the difference shows in the types of wickets we play on in England. The conditions are not as easy as you would expect in a Twenty20 game. Here you can play on different types of wickets and you never know what type of surface you will play on in the next game. It's the only real challenge to play Twenty20 cricket in England and makes it special".
